DAiSY-Chain: Meet The Artist | Gaia Redgrave | Rewilding the Artist

Rewilding the Artist encourages dreaming & thinking differently about visual arts access and equity. It is a route to sustainable practice & problem solving. Rewilding the Artist advocates for self-care and a Culture of Care for all within and connected to the visual arts.
Join the DAiSY-Chain Network for this incredible talk with artist and writer Gaia Redgrave on Thursday 22nd October · 7:00 – 8:00pm. Gaia is a neurodivergent visual artist, facilitator, and diversity advocate, living and working in West Wales.
Her work is autoethnographical and performative, concerning itself with a deep connection to space and place, exploring how our sense of belonging, to landscape, place or culture, impacts our sense of self and our emotional health and well-being.
“Rewilding the Artist” was founded by artist Gaia Redgrave and was born out of the need to place wellbeing at the roots of her practice and to develop creative strategies in relation to accessibility. It is a project encompassing a field guide book of the same name, a podcast series, and in person facilitated organisation reinvention and collaboration.
Since its conception in 2021, Rewilding the Artist has gone from strength to strength in partnership with an array of freelance creatives, academics & organisations supporting not only neurodivergent & disabled artists but all who wish to prioritise wellbeing, kindness and nurturing working spaces.
What is the book Rewilding the Artist about?
Freelance artists are generally not thriving. We have second jobs, undertake many hours of unpaid work and live in a precarious situation financially. Disabled and/or neurodivergent artists have the additional challenge of often needing to advocate for themselves to request a level playing field.
In this hands-on field guide, artist Gaia Redgrave shares her Rewilding Journey as a neurodivergent, disabled person. Through engaging written and visual prompts, we see how Rewilding ourselves is empowering, enabling, and the way forward for a sustainable way of life, reminding us that it is possible to return to ourselves in this often unsettled world
