DAiSY~Chain X Ensonglopedia Commission
About the Commission
Ensonglopedia are looking to commission one graphic artist or animator from the DAiSY~CHAiN network to help them make an educational music video for a song from their new project, LIGHT FANTASTIC!
The song and video will teach young people aged 11-14 about the science of light.
It will be funny, quirky and scientifically accurate.

The Commission Offer
The person we commission would be mentored for at least three sessions by John Hinton, a singer-songwriter, science communicator and animator, who runs the company ‘Ensonglopedia’. They would also be expected to work independently on designing the artwork, and perhaps animating it.
Fee and dates:
- We would pay the person we hire £900 as a commissioning fee
- We would also make sure they have access to the appropriate software
- The finished animation would be about two and a half minutes long
- The deadline for a first draft of the video is early March 2025, and the final deadline is May 2025
About Ensonglopedia
Ensonglopedia create musical shows and videos, and run workshops, to inspire the next generation of artists, scientists and historians. Most of their work is aimed at upper primary and lower secondary ages, though they pride themselves on making work which will appeal equally to young people and adults. They are based in Lewes, East Sussex, and tour their shows all over the UK and internationally.
The first Ensonglopedia show was created in 2016, and they officially incorporated as a limited company in 2019.
About the Applicant
We are seeking someone who:
- Has a unique, fun visual style
- Has experience of making work for animation
- Can work to a brief and a deadline
- Is a signed-up member of the DAiSY~Chain Network
It would also be very interesting if this person:
- Has experience of using animation software themselves (especially if it’s Adobe After Effects), or is interested in learning
- Has experience of making work that responds to existing music or words
- Has an interest in science or educational work
