Vanessa Cumper

Vanessa Cumper is a contemporary English painter based in Surrey. With a master’s in fine arts from the University of Brighton. Influenced by Expressionism such as Georgia O’Keefe, Frida Khalo and Wilhelm Heinrich Otto Dix, Vanessa’s current body of work is about exploring the themes and narratives of barriers to communication and in some cases how they relate to her own ontological journey of negotiating physical and communicative barriers. She incorporates individuals’ stories within the context of cultural and ethnographic philosophy, by experimenting with reinterpretation of their narrative on alternative and sometimes surprising substrates. Vanessa’s work has been exhibited in galleries and she has shared her passion with many students in her successful series of “Stride and Sketch” which focusses on health (by stealth) and love of sketching.
