We are excited to announce that our latest member exhibition, LAYERS, will form part of Reingate and Barnstead’s Arts Takeover from 5 – 13 October 2024
As part of Arts Council England funded HERE WE ARE programme, we are excited to announce our member exhibition, LAYERS. In this project, 16 of our member organisations have supported up to 170 artists to create self-portraits exploring the concept of ‘layers’.
Each artist was given a canvas and invited to explore the concept of “Layers” as a way to gain a deeper insight into themselves. They were asked the question:
“What makes you who you are, and how can you show that in your art?”.
The artists reflected on the various aspects that shape themselves as individuals —the diverse elements of their personality and identity—and created self-portraits to share their inner worlds. Beyond contemplating their metaphorical layers, the artists were also encouraged to express their identities through different artistic techniques and mediums that they felt represented them. This exhibition showcases a wide range of styles, textures, and approaches, from collage to written word, paint to print, as each artist delves into the layers that define them.
An exhibition of these artists’ portraits will take place at The Belfry Shopping Centre in Redhill as part of Reigate & Banstead’s Arts Takeover from 5 – 13 October 2024.
